Retreats

Visiting the Hozoviotissa Monastery, Amorgos,
during the Greek retreat, 2009
Of course the Retreat situation offers us all an opportunity to break our routine and to see things from an altered perspective. The beauty of the location has its own power, helping us to soften some of our harder edges and engaging new parts of our brain.  A  holiday affords a similar outcome, but when we add to this “view” the practise of Yoga, the whole adventure is amplified. The Retreat can be useful for those wishing to go a little deeper, to see what a limber body, a few breaths and a settled sitting position with a focused mind can proffer. And all this among like-minded friends!

A typical retreat might offer two sessions daily, morning and afternoon/evening.

Morning:
  • Seated Meditation
  • Kriya, Pranayama, Bandha
  • Brief Shavasana
  • Active Asana
  • Longer Shavasana
Afternoon Pranayama, Iris Centre, Amorgos.
 Greek retreat, 2011

Afternoon/evening:
  • Short discourse on Yogic theory or philosophy
  • Passive Asana / Inversions
  • Pranayama
  • Seated Meditation
